e Visas
If you apply online, you may be granted an electronic visa (or eVisa). An eVisa is a visa issued without a physical label.
If you apply online, you may be granted an electronic visa (eVisa). This means you will not have a physical visa label in your passport.
You’ll be told by email when your application has been decided. You can log into your Immigration Online account to see the decision.
If your application is successful, your visa approval letter will include your visa details. If you have an immigration adviser or lawyer, you’ll receive your visa approval letter from them. You should print your eVisa letter, keep it in a safe place, and carry it with you when you travel to New Zealand.
Verifying your visa status
Even if we don’t put a visa label in your passport, employers or education providers can check if you are eligible to work or study in New Zealand using our VisaView system.
You can also authorise other organisations, such as banks and health care providers, to view the details of your current visa through our Visa Verification Service.
Requirements to enter, exit and transit other countries
Some countries have specific entry, exit and transit visa requirements. If you’re transiting or exiting through another country, it is your responsibility to check with the relevant government authorities, your airline or your travel agent about departure or transit requirements.
If you hold an eVisa, there are many ways to show details of your New Zealand visa while travelling overseas. You can:
- Show a copy of your visa approval notification
- Log into your Immigration Online account, or the Visa Verification Service to show a copy of your visa details (including on a mobile device)
- Advise the government official your visa details so that they can log into the Visa Verification Service
- Request a physical label from Immigration New Zealand (this is a separate application, and a fee applies)
