What tax code should you be on?

If you're earning income you'll need a tax code and a student loan (SL) repayment code if you have a student loan. Different tax codes apply to different work situations, so it's important you fill out an IR330 (external link) with the right tax code each time:
  • you start a new job, and
  • your income or student loan situation changes.

How is 40 hours per fortnight calculated in Austrlia

How is 40 hours per fortnight calculated?

An example of how 40 hours a fortnight is calculated:
After your course has started, you work the following hours over a four week period:

Australia’s 2015-16 permanent migration programme

Every year, we set a migration programme to best support Australia’s economic and social goals. This year’s programme looks like this:

To help set 2015-16’s programme, we have prepared a discussion paper,

which is now online at www.immi.gov.au/pub-res/Pages/discussion-papers/overview.aspx?heading=the-2015-16-migration-programme. This discussion paper provides a broad starting point for thinking about the best settings for migration levels next year.
At the end of the discussion paper, you will find a short survey. This is your chance to tell us what you think is the optimal size and composition of the permanent migration programme. Your responses will be confidential.
So have your say – read the discussion paper, take the survey and let your government know your thoughts before Friday, 5 December 2014.

Licensed Immigration Advisors

YOUR GUIDE TO LICENSED IMMIGRATION ADVISERS

Anyone providing New Zealand immigration advice in or outside New Zealand must be licensed by the Immigration Advisers Authority, unless exempt.

RISKS
The risks of using a person who is not licensed or exempt are:
Your visa application will be returned by Immigration
New Zealand (INZ). INZ does not accept applications from
unlicensed people acting illegally.
Unlicensed people may not be honest with you or INZ.
Lying on your visa application is a criminal offence and
dishonesty may affect your future visas or jobs.
Your application may be declined because the unlicensed
person has no immigration knowledge or skills.
REMEMBER
Stay away from anyone who:
refuses to put their name on your visa application
claims to have personal contacts at INZ
asks you to sign a visa application before it has been
filled out. You should never sign a document you don’t
understand.

New Zealand Power Plug

New Zealand (as well as Australia and New Guinea) uses different power plugs to the rest of the world.

 New Zealand operates on 220 – 240 volts A.C., 50Hz.

New Zealand power outlets accept power plugs with 3 flat pins - 1 of which is an earthing pin (this is simply a safety measure). Some power plugs don't have the earthing pin but they still fit into the power outlets.

The pins on New Zealand power plugs look something like this:

New Zealand power plug adapters

If you plan to travel to New Zealand, you may need a power plug adapter if you plan to bring your own electrical appliance such as a hair dryer, shaver etc. If you are going to buy an adapter, be sure to get one with the earthing pin. New Zealand power plug adapters look something like this:

Lakshman Hulugalle appointed as Dy. High Commissioner To Sri Lanka Mission in Australia

Former Director General of now defunct Media Center for National Security Lakshman Hulugalle has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Sri Lanka High Commission in Australia and is expected to assume duties on 1st July say reports.
The proposal to appoint Mr. Hulugalla for the post was presented to cabinet meeting by Minister G.L. Peiris amidst protests by several ministers. Meanwhile, media has reported that the President had said any step should be taken to send Mr. Hulugalle away from the country as his stay in the country would be a headache for him.
Mr. Hulugalle is the person who played a main role in the ‘Salaka’ gambling den incident. He was hospitalized twice due to consuming overdoses of sleeping tablets.
An Old Boy of St. Anne's College, Kurunegala Hulugalle was DG of the Media Center for National Security ever since the government came into power in 2009
